Our Approach
We do not use Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel, or any advertising tracker, and we do not sell visitor data. We do use Google Analytics, but only after you actively accept it in the cookie banner. If you accept, usage data is sent to Google, which processes it to provide the analytics service; see Analytics below for what that means in practice and how to change your choice at any time.
Analytics
We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-first, cookie-free analytics tool that does not track individual visitors, does not use cookies, and does not collect personal information. Plausible loads on every page and does not require a cookie consent banner.
We also use Google Analytics (GA4), but only if you accept it in the cookie banner shown on your first visit, or in Cookie settings in the footer at any time afterwards. Before you accept, no request is made to Google and no Google Analytics cookie is set. Once you accept, Google Analytics sets cookies (typically named _ga and _ga_*) to distinguish visitors and measure how the site is used. If you reject, or later withdraw consent, Google Analytics stops running and we clear the cookies it set that we can reach from this site. Your choice is stored in your browser only; we do not know who you are.
Cookies
We set one cookie ourselves: your theme preference (light, dark, or system). This cookie contains no personal information and is not used for tracking.
If you accept analytics, Google Analytics sets additional cookies (see Analytics above); if you never accept, or you reject, those cookies are not set. The site is served through Cloudflare, which may set its own cookies for security purposes such as telling human visitors apart from automated traffic; these are not under our control.
Browser storage
Beyond cookies, some features store data in your browser’s local storage rather than sending it to us. This includes your cookie/analytics choice, your saved clinics list, your compare list, your currency display preference, whether you have dismissed the medical disclaimer banner, and your progress through the “verify a clinic yourself” tool. None of this leaves your browser, and clearing your browser’s storage clears all of it.
Newsletter
The newsletter signup form is currently not accepting submissions: no email address is stored or sent anywhere when you use it. This policy will be updated with the details of what is stored and how to unsubscribe if and when the newsletter is switched back on.
Forms
The submission forms on this site (clinic submissions, issue reports, questions and answers, outcome reports, travel-buddy requests and watchlist alerts) are currently not accepting submissions: what you type is not stored or sent anywhere. Third-Party Services
Map tiles are loaded from OpenStreetMap via their public tile servers, which may log standard web server access information (IP address, browser type) according to their own privacy policy. Our fonts are self-hosted: they are downloaded from Google Fonts once when the site is built, not from your browser, so visiting the site does not send a request to Google Fonts.
We use Sentry to catch and log software errors so we can fix them. Sentry is configured not to collect personally identifiable information by default.
